Kangaroos and Koalas!

Today is the day I visited Victor Harbor and this Urimbirra wildlife park! It is a little town located an hour drive away from Adelaide city, famous for whale watching during the winters and of course penguins! But it was quite not our luck because we observe no penguins, dolphins or whales. Just a half dead seal...

We took a stroll at the Granite Island at this Victor Harbor, there are nothing other than beautiful sceneries thanks to the effort of making it a wildlife reserve for sea animals and plants

Sea grass on shallow waters

sun, sand, sea and stones

The splashing sound of the big waves are the best music you can have in Victors Harbor

A wonderful view from the hills to the small town in Victors Harbor

This is the real thing in Victor's Harbor! FISH AND CHIPS! But why Australians are so stingy on the fish and so generous on the fries?

Another interesting visit is the Urimbirra wildlife park, where we saw numerous kangaroos hopping around freely and we are free to feed, cuddle and snap pictures of the kangaroos.

Look at that cute baby in his mama's pouch!

Dude I just can't wake this koala up...

Please cuddle them and get yourself bitten! =)

cute pony! and can anyone tell me what's the animal behind?

The climax of the visit is here. First I just saw 1 rabbit sitting around outside. So I sprinkled some of the kangaroo food and it is happily eating it. There comes the second one. I was thinking like, wow so cute.... there comes the third one and then a whole big bunch of them rushing out from their nests! OMG I am so freaked and I am so worry that these rabbits will fight for food! Well I am a cute animal lover and I am very kind its normal for me to have such worries. =X

New Home

Home sweet home, today is the day I shifted into my new home, its really a cool house. To me its like some kind of really Australian home. Living room is carpeted, with a flatscreen, ps3, fairly good sound system, furniture are pretty new, kitchen with all the utensils available and ready to get myself started on pigletzZz made sumptious delights!

There you go, some pictures of the house!

Orientation Week!

Can you imagine you are surrounded by people that are holding beer during school hours? University bars are open during school hours and they sell beers and booze? Have you ever imagine you are totally immersed in an environment where it is full of people from different races and cultural background? It isn't like Malaysia, people are from all over the world, this is The University of Adelaide orientation week!

This orientation week has only couple of sessions for talks and seminars, attendance is not compulsory, everything is running randomly! Booths are open in the lawns ranging from old fashion kind of booth (Adelaide University Union, banks, etc.), geeky booths (chess clubs and board games), sports (as usual), PARTY BOOTHS (Coopers beer booth, Skullduggery party on this coming Thursday, German club that has loads of parties and hang outs) and very cool sports booth (gliding, water-ski, surf boarding, body building clubs).

It sounds really fun for orientation week, but in fact it doesn't seem to be fun at all! Maybe partying will be fun but I just can't afford it right now. A lot of things still need to be purchased and I am on a tight budget right now!

Its Adelaide!

15 February 2010, Monday

8.00pm the flight was delayed and I was uninformed! I thought it was just a couple of hour delayed, but in the end, it was a 9 hours delay. MAS airline compensated us with a night of stay in Concorde Inn KLIA, the room was not that big, really inn kind of inn, thou it sounded like really good because it is Concorde!

9.00pm Mommy and Hiang sis came and visit me at the INN, We watched kung fu hustle together, but unfortunately they left at 9.15pm and left me alone again. Sigh… crappy MAS airlines, why do they have to give me such trouble, left me in loneliness for hours…. That night I watched Kung Fu Hustle, James Bond Golden Eye and Spy Next Door.

16 February 2010, Tuesday

4.00am The bus is waiting for the passengers to board the bus that heads to KLIA now. I wasn’t sleeping for the whole night. But by just looking at Old Town White Coffee reminds me of days without curry chicken with nasi lemak in Australia. So I went into old town and got myself a curry chicken rice!

6.40am The plane should be departing by now but it was delayed again and again. We were informed that it was because that they are fixing the entertainment system. WTF? Why the hell we need to wait another god damned hour for the entertainment system? Just freaking fly the damn plane man.

7.40am At last it was boarding time. My seat ain’t that good because it is in the middle. Thanks to the delay, MAS airline gave us a box of chocolates, and RM100 voucher for on-board purchasing. That sounds ain’t bad but I did not get a shit at all! They stop selling stuffs once the trolley reached the middle part of the plane. Crap… The excuse they give is that the Aussie government will question them if there are too much goods being sold on board. The breakfast provided is a muffin… ewww…. Chocolate muffins… yucks. The lunch ain’t bad, salmon with baked potatoes, i ordered a glass of scotch whisky and it was a perfect lunch on board.

3.30pm It is now 5.30pm in Adelaide, wow this Aussie custom is really troublesome, series of checking and scanning. These goes on for about an hour and at last, a man call Paul picked us up with a limo, a very cool limo, ITS LIMO!!! I thought it should be a van or whatever car to pick us up, but it’s a LIMO!!!!

6.00pm Arriving at Royal Adelaide Hospital(RAH) residential wing, 10th floor! This will be my accommodation for a week, it’s quite a cool place if compared to those in Malaysia (of course, it costs me 150++ AUD per week). I bought 2 phone card, 1 is to enable me to use the public phone, another is for calling home (something like ring ring card back in Malaysia). The latter isn’t toll free, man… Aussie phone companies are money face man. Maxis, DiGi and Celcom still rocks man. I love ya guys!

9.00pm The sky doesn’t gets dark before 9pm in Adelaide since its summer. After my bath I am in a search for food, a Vietnamese guy, Bien is very helpful to lead me all the way to the front building of Adelaide University, the walk was around a kilometer away. I got a bottle of drinking water from the convenient stall since mine was confiscated in the Malaysian custom. CRAP!!! IT WAS 2 FREAKING BUCKS for a 600ml, that’s the cheapest. Well its night, everything closes around 6pm, no choice. Then I got myself a instant macaroni with cheese from the convenient stall and head back to RAH and cook that piece of crap in the microwave.

12.00am Well, it’s boring. Let’s get to bed.

17 February 2010, Wednesday

The great morning starts at 8.00am with a freaking costly sandwich of 5 bucks, it tastes so good. Well it’s not like Malaysia now, I can’t even afford to order a coffee from the shop, 1 god damn coffee is 2.50AUD. No drinking water for me too. What I can do is just eat the sandwich and drink tap water, filled into the drinking water bottle I got yesterday. Well, tap water will not kill, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

Then I head to the welcome centre. The first person I spoke to is a Korean girl named Kyungin, well she is kinda cool and speaks pretty good English! We chatted and sat together in the lecture hall during the briefing and during the campus tour, till the barbecue lunch organized by the peer mentors. What a barbecue, it gave me a shock when I heard of barbecue, I thought it was roasting chicken wings, LAMB CHOP!!! (REMEMBER THAT GUYS?) prawns and stuffs. It ended up by just barbecuing sausages and that is the Australian way of barbecue. Then Kyungin went off and heads home. I was quite lucky because I saw my same kind, exchange student from USM, Adrienne. Very small sized girl and she led me to the exchange student briefing. I accompanied her to the bank for her new ATM card after the briefing and as a trade off, she accompanied me to get my new sim card from Optus. The sim wasn’t expensive, 30 bucks with 30 bucks credit, but the call rate is freaking IMBA!!! 85cents for a minute. Sigh…

It was the Aussie Quiz Night and I met a Pakistan guy named Arthur, we chatted and through him I get to know a guys from Chile, Diego. Then get to know more people like Bryan Poole from the states, Mihai from Columbia, Essam from Egypt. 5 of us chatted and went chill out at a bar. We played pool and chatted about everything! Great night! Great beer!

18 February 2010, Thursday

At last I got a day without insomnia. Maybe it was a tiring day yesterday night, chilling out till 1.30am, a whole day of activities and blah blah blah. I slept till 11.30! Woohoo! I am late for a lot of stuffs, thus I depart for accommodation office immediately. Check and check ended up getting nothing! But my lunch was a bit rewarding at 3.30pm just 2 bucks for these!

4.00pm we departed for Marion shopping centre, BIGGEST in South Adelaide, nothing as big as Pavilion and Mid Valley. Dinner is McDonalds at 6.45pm, Big Mac taste almost the same, the fries are better than those of Malaysian made (it doesn’t gets soggy when its cold), coke is freaking “gao”. Maybe next time I should try the Grand Angus, looks pretty tempting. Beach attire in here is pretty cheap too, a quiksilver surf pants is just 40AUD, its like Billabong on sales, and we never get cheap Quiksilver pants in KL before.

19 February 2010, Friday

Today is the fringe parade in Adelaide, it was something big in Adelaide but to Asian like us it may look common! It is a parade to promote their performances in a fun fair, its not that fun after I have visited the fun fair, its boring because everything is so god damn expensive!

The dinner on that night is Subway! Woohoo! Subway with half centimeter thick ham, 7 bucks! We call that pretty cheap in Adelaide coz everything else is just FUCKING EXPENSIVE! I even kept the sandwich for the next morning.

20 February 2010, Saturday

It’s a freaking crazy day! Eaten some lousiest noodle in my life, freaking salty and totally lousy! We were on a trip to the beach, somebody just dragged me away saying that she does not wanted to go into the waters. So we just had a stroll around the beach and had the bloody noodle in the end. Then getting back to the cities and had a pizza for dinner and the pizza just cost me 7 dollars and I had pizza again for the next 2 mornings!

21 February 2010, Sunday

It was a good day for me today! We went to harbor town shopping mall to get something cheap. But somehow the outcome isn’t as what we expected. We just got ourselves some cheap Levis, really cheap ones!

Next on the list will be the botanical gardens just located on the east of the city. Beautiful flowers, green lawns and weird trees! We even climb the trees to write on the branches!

Later in the evening, we caught a bus and gets to Hahndorf, that used to be a German village previously. We are able to have our best dinner after an entire week of lousy food in Australia! Certainly it costs me a fortune too! Spent 40bucks on that dinner!
